Sage Life is a software company with an extensive workforce in South Africa. The Sage Foundation began work in 2019, as part of its corporate social investment, on a digital tool to support women victims of domestic violence. This project recognised that domestic violence is rampant not only in vulnerable communities but in working and middle-class communities also. In this project the employee volunteer programme was harnessed to offer an internal support system for women victims of domestic violence from within the workforce.Â

Objectives:
The objective of this programme was to establish a victim support system in which employees can offer their time to assist other employees in need of support. A project was designed to deliver capacity to Sage employee volunteers to themselves deliver support to colleagues from within the organisation. The objective was not to create a formal counselling system but an informal system to support victims and where appropriate to refer them to formal counselling or legal services.Â
